The Esquire Tavern is a quintessential downtown bar that was originally opened up in 1933 in order to celebrate the end of Prohibition era and it has been a beloved San Antonio 'watering hole' ever since, with only a short hiatus from between 2006 to 2011. The Esquire is dark, cool, completely full of history, and serving fantastic cold beer, delicious swanky cocktails, and excellent food. We serve the classic tavern food that you love made with high-quality, fresh ingredients — simple, expertly prepared, and really, really good. We make everything ourselves from scratch — Kaiser rolls, puff pastry, burger buns, ketchup, mustard, ice cream, pickles, sherbet, soda water ... pretty much everything but the plate! Join us for a great meal, a cold one, or a late-night cocktail.
