Beautician scissors can be expensive equipment, costing four hundred dollars or more. Rather than replacing dull scissors, it makes sense to have them professionally sharpened, as needed, which will greatly extend the life of the equipment. Bill and Margaret Van Buren have been sharpening high quality scissors and shears since 1979, at one time traveling from their home in northern Maine to cover as many as twenty-two states. Today, while they will still travel to nearby locations, most of their business is conducted by mail order, which allows them to serve all fifty U.S. states. Their experience and capabilities are outlined, along with a price list, and information about choosing and maintaining a good quality shear are put forward.
