Gathering these little jewels on waterside walks is a natural enjoyment for children and adults alike. A handful brought home can serve as a reminder of the sea in much the same way that a painting or photograph would. I love strolling along creating mini color palettes in my hand as I go. I`m always amazed at how nature sets out groups of colors that balance and play off each other perfectly. I add and edit as I walk, enjoying the way a palette can change with the addition of a single new color. For a constant reminder of the summer all around me, I`ve introduced these palettes in my home. I`ve picked out paint colors inspired by the palettes the seashore has produced, and I`ve painted some old porch furniture in various shades of green and white. Using a watered-down latex paint, I applied layer upon layer of the colors and then roughly sanded back the paint to reveal all the different shades underneath, giving a sea-washed effect both in the color sand
