Land of lochs and the Highlands, stone castles and remote islands, Scotland maintains its potential to attract and entertain holidaymakers. Stay in a log cabin by the shores of a loch, in a stone rural cottage or even in a castle. Stunning scenery and a low population makes rural Scotland a satisfying country to holiday in. Its abundance of wildlife makes it a magnet for nature lovers. Red squirrels, shy pine martens, red deer and all manner of hairy creatures flourishes in it woodlands and rural areas. Winters in Scotland are long and snowy. There are a few ski resorts such as the Lecht and Aviemore in northern Scotland but apart from skiers only intrepid walkers visit the remote parts during cold months. Nature awakens with the spring sunshine and brings out the noisy chirping birds engaged in mating rituals, pale yellow primroses and rabbits. Many British rural locations have been depleted of rabbits and badgers. This not the case in Scotland and it cheers the heart to see so many of them nibbling away and frolicking in the grass.
