The elementary particles are referred to as the proton, electron, and neutron. Technically, the proton and neutron are composed of yet smaller
parts called quarks, but they are often thought of as elementary because they are the form that exists in 99.99999999 percent of the universe. In fact, protons, neutrons, and electrons are what make up all the matter in the
universe from suns to dirt. As such, it is important to understand these particles and something about them; what charges they have, how they interact, and how exactly they combine to make the stuff of the
universe possible. After all, they do matter (pun intended).
