Chikankari is an art of hand embroidery which got birth in the Mughal era but it is practiced by expert artisans till date. It was previously done on white or pastel colored fabric but now it is also done on multi-colored salwar suits, kurta payjamas, sarees and shirts. For chikankari, we need a hoop, fabric on which pattern is developed and thread. It requires a lot of patience and great deal of concentration to make a brand new Chikankari done outfit. This art of hand embroidery flourishes till date. In hand embroidery threads, yarns and needles are used. For added decoration women sew beads, buttons, stones and sequins on the fabric. This makes the fabric more beautiful. The lively patterns make the clothing more personal and pretty. Some people make the design free hand whereas some designers use patterns.
