Philosophy is deep. It’s a discipline of infinite questions and challenging answers. And learning about philosophy is only the beginning.. From the origin of philosophy, the branches of philosophy, Eastern and Western philosophy and their differences and even famous philosophical disagreements or battles between public figureheads there is quite a lot to learn.
But don’t get overwhelmed.
There are many different opinions of philosophy in society. It is hard to come to a global consensus on much of anything, let alone on fundamental issues that tie together people’s beliefs on values, reason, language and religion
Philosophical ideas are so varied that they have been split into a large bin of smaller ideas underneath the overarching “main” theories. Some of those theories include realism, skepticism, rationalism, idealism, existentialism and pragmatism. Many people consider philosophy right on par with politics and religion when it comes to topics you don’t bring up at work or at many other social gatherings for fear of intense arguments and difference of opinions. When it comes to anything in life that isn’t 100% grounded in fact – there can be quite a difference of opinion on what is right and what is wrong.
So, where does that leave you? At the beginning—here, in our Philosophy directory, a part of our Society directory. Here, you’ll find websites, articles and resources that pertain to philosophy.
